NES Power Hour

A couple years ago, Tyler, Chas and I decided it would be a good idea to do a power hour and talk about Nintendo games while we recorded it. That first recording eventually turned into Now Loadin’, the video game site Chas and I ran before Stew Over. In other words, this is the beginning. Tyler went through the effort of syncing up the audio recording with the following video so that you can follow along with us. So go grab a shot glass, eight beers, and enjoy a trip down memory lane with us.

Top Ten: Drinking Games Jun12

Top Ten: Drinking Games

Summer’s finally here and soon you’ll find yourself at a BBQ, beach or maybe just your basement with some friends looking to have a good time. Today I’m going to take a quick look at some games you can play if you’re really looking to get college level drunk. I’ve always enjoyed drinking games. The competitive nature, the group setting, the beer. I don’t know if I’ll introduce you to any new games in this article, but these are my personal favorites. I did the majority of my drinking (at least in organized games) during college as is the case with most people. I still enjoy the occasional game, however, they...

Don’t Eat Nostalgically May29

Don’t Eat Nostalgically

Today, with my wife out of town, I made a poor decision.  Wandering around the grocery store, I cruised past the frozen pizza and an item from my childhood leapt out at me from the freezer case, french bread pizza.   For those who grew up deprived of this culinary masterpiece it...

Iowa State Fair Sep05

Iowa State Fair

I’ll admit it: I’d never been to a State Fair. What type of Midwesterner has never been to a State Fair? I couldn’t live with myself. I decided to make the journey to Des Moines, Iowa, for the 158th annual Iowa State Fair. The Iowa State Fair’s own website...

Burner Beer Project: Shorts #1 Aug21

Burner Beer Project: Shorts #1

Although the last Beer of the Month Club shipment has come and gone Burner will still be dropping by to talk beer from time to time. The White IPA Conundrum I suppose I should have seen it coming. After enjoying a couple of different black IPAs I should have seen the inevitability of...

The Burner Beer Project, June Edition

Welcome back to the Burner Beer Project. By my count this shipment, which arrived at the end of June, will be the last of the Beer of the Month Club deliveries. It’s been great fun tasting and drinking and talking about all these beers this year. And fear not, I’ll likely...

It’s Time for a “Paid Vacation” Jul27

It’s Time for a “Paid Vacation”

This summer has been a hot one. As the mercury rises, we often reach for summertime classics like margaritas, mojitos and mules. But this summer I encourage you to give Tiki a try. If an artless, artificial, sugary mess is the first thing you think of when you think of Tiki,...

Pesto Without the Food Processor Jul24

Pesto Without the Food Processor

The simple fact of the matter is that food processors, however useful they may be, are a great big pain in the ass to clean, with all those odd angles and sharp pieces. Not to mention it’s mostly plastic and thus takes forever to dry. This becomes especially infuriating when...

The Great Hot Dog Project: Mustard’s Last Stand, Plush Pup, Goodi’s Jul23

The Great Hot Dog Project: Mustard’s Last St...

[This is the fifth in a running sequence featuring one of my favorite street foods: The Chicago Style Hot Dog. A snappy sandwich which can be considered a 400 calorie snack or the cornerstone of a typical Chicago lunch from 1983: two hot dogs, a basket of fries and a Coke. Check out...

Beyond the BBQ: Summer Seafood Boils Jul17

Beyond the BBQ: Summer Seafood Boils

Any god-fearing American can grill up a hot dog or sear a few hamburgers over open flame.  Any butthead can host a BBQ.  If you’re looking to make real memories… it’s time to boil. Beyond the BBQ: Summer Seafood Boils Great choices for summer boils include blue crabs, crawfish and shrimp. The last boil  I did was crawfish and they were shipped live from Louisiana from this site – spectacular. Popular in the Gulf and the East Coast, blue crab boils can be a thing of beauty – if you’re willing to put in the work. For blue crab virgins, the first encounter can be pretty intimidating. Lets put it this...
